Number 1 Worksheets

Here are some free printable number 1 worksheets for preschoolers and kindergarten.

You can use them to help your kids learn about the number 1 in an easy and fun way.

There is very minimal writing. Mostly children will be coloring, cutting, pasting, tracing, and answering questions verbally to their teacher or homeschooling parent.

They will be building their math skills without even realizing it. The math skills that are being worked on in this lesson are:

  • before and after
  • writing numbers in words
  • addition with pictures – sums to 10
  • identifying even and odd numbers
  • adding 1

Number One Worksheet for Kindergarten

The first printable will introduce children to the number 1.

Number 1 kindergarten worksheets. Showing a black and white printable worksheet. Kids will need crayons, a scissor, a glue stick, and a pencil.

The number 1 activity will have kids:

  • color the number word “ONE” in letters shaped from drawings of babies and their toys
  • trace and write the digit form of the number 1
  • write the numbers before and after 1
  • determine if 1 is even or odd (they will color a number 1 orange if it is even and blue if it is odd)
  • find the letters that make up the number word one.

Your child is going to need the letters to practice spelling the number “one”. There’s a page included in the pdf that has all the letters needed to spell zero as well as the number words 1 to 10.

Adding 1 Worksheets

Before your child begins the following 2 pages, I suggest going over the ones section of an adding chart with them.  It should help them begin to see the pattern in adding one to something.

I did that with my daughter, and it really helped her understand the idea of adding one more to a number.  Then, the next 2 printables will help reinforce the concept.

Adding 1 Worksheet With Pictures

The next kindergarten math worksheet you can do verbally with your child. Give them the page and show them that there are 2 toy trains. Then ask them: “How many trains would there be if we were to add 1 more? (Point to the extra train)

Let them count before answering.

Then to reinforce the idea, ask them: “So what’s 1 more than 2?”

Have them answer: “1 more than 2 is….

Then you could ask: “So 1 + 2 is…..

And then ask them, while pointing to the different groups of toy trains: “So then what is 2 + 1?”

One more than worksheet for young learners. There are 2+1 toy trains, 6+1 rubber ducky's, 3+1 dolls, and 5+1 toy cars. Under each plus sign are words like "One more than 3 is".

Repeat the discussion with the rubber ducks, dolls, and toy cars. It’s a teaching aid with the goal of helping them see the pattern of adding one to any number.

Preschool Adding 1 Worksheet

The next worksheet will have kids coloring, tracing, and answering verbally.

They will color to identify the number 1 dice and the hand with 1 finger.

A black and white printable number 1 worksheet for preschoolers. There are images of 6 dice and kids need to cooler the dice showing 1. There are also 5 hands, each showing a different amount of fingers. Children will be asked to color the hand that shows 1 finger. They will trace the number word one. And there are 12 addition by 1 questions for kids to answer verbally to their teacher or homeschooling parent.

They’ll practice tracing the number word one. And then, they get to practice their new skill of adding 1 to any number with a few questions they can answer aloud.

Printable Number One Worksheets

The number one worksheets for kindergarten can be downloaded below. The 4 page pdf is free to download and print.

It includes the page of letters, if needed.

Hope your child enjoys learning these math skills. Ready to learn the number two?

If you’re just joining us in this number bonds worksheets series, perhaps you would like to start at the beginning with the pre-lesson or on the number zero.

I have just discovered you and I am amazed. These are exactly the sort of resources and practical tips and advice I was after to help my 5 yr old daughter.

I had an aversion to maths and don’t want my daughter to be the same way so want to instil good practices early on.

Thank you so much for all your effort!

It is much appreciated.
