Number Bonds to 9 Worksheets

Here are four printables to help kids learn number bonds to 9:

For Kindergarten or Preschool

This printable helps kids learn the number pairs of 9. It’s not so much a worksheet as it is a learning aid. For those that wish to introduce number bonds of 9 to their preschool or kindergarten students, this would be the best one for that.

There’s no writing required, only a bit of coloring. It’s meant to be done alongside a parent or teacher.

Free Math Printable to help parent teach child number bonds of 9.

It can be used to help kids understand the addition and subtraction fact families of 9.

As part of the math lesson, it might be helpful to use 9 objects to illustrate that groups of parts make up a total. For example, showing a group (or part) of 4 marbles and a group of 5 marbles, will make a total of 9 marbles.

The child can then color each section of the fact family, the total one color, and the parts another.

At this point it’s only about understanding that:

  • PART + PART = TOTAL
  • TOTAL – PART = THE OTHER PART

With your guidance, they can use the visual of the coloured fact families, to verbally answer the addition and subtraction questions. This will help them grasp the relationships between the numbers.

Number Bonds to 9 Coloring Worksheet For Kindergarten or First Grade

Here is a coloring worksheet to help kids learn the number bonds of 9. Kids will use 2 different colors to decompose, or break into smaller parts, each set of 9 leaves.

This decomposing addition worksheet would be the perfect fall math worksheet.

Free Math Printables. Decomposing 9 colouring worksheet.

For First Grade

The next two number bonds to 9 worksheets would be best for 1st grade math.

In the first worksheet, kids will have to practice their adding and subtracting to remember all the number pairs of 9. The clover leaf theme presents an easy way for them to differentiate between the total vs the parts.

They will also get to color to show:

  • if 9 is even or odd
  • what 9 looks like in a Ten Frame
  • and trace and learn to write the word “nine”.

Hi, I have only just discovered your number bonds series and these are invaluable. Thank you for all the ffort that you have put into them.

I just wanted to ask...I have downloaded the talking abacus, but cannot seem to locate the Abacus Adventure App on the iphone at all. Anything else i could use? I found a soroban abacus app - would that be any good?

I was/am awful at math and don't want my daughter to have the same handicap so am trying my best to gather and use the resources available to us, including getting to grips with mental maths.
