If your kids love robots, building, and getting creative, they’re going to love this free 3D robot craft!
This printable robot craft lets kids build their very own 3D robots using a fun mix-and-match design. With multiple heads, bodies, arms, and bottom pieces to choose from, no two robots need to look the same.
It’s a free printable and works beautifully for both individual kids at home and group settings like classrooms, camps, and parties.

Recommended Age Range
This paper craft works best for elementary-aged kids, roughly 2nd through 6th grade.
Younger kids, such as kindergarteners, can still enjoy this activity, but they’ll need significant adult help.
If an adult handles the cutting, folding, and gluing, younger children can have a lot of fun painting or coloring the robot pieces and playing with the finished robots afterward.
Great for Groups and Individual Kids
This robot craft was designed to be flexible.
Group Activities
This printable works especially well for:
- classrooms
- summer camps
- libraries
- robot-themed parties
- playdates and group crafts
Each child can make one robot, and if multiple robots are completed, the parts can be mixed and matched for even more creative combinations.
Kids at Home
Parents don’t need to print all 13 pages.
To make one robot, just print:
- one head/lower body page
- one body/arms page
- optional: the foot page
Making all six robots would take quite a bit of time. I made all of them myself. While kids might wish to do more than one robot, I would suggest focusing on one robot at a time.
What’s Included in the 3D Robot Craft Printable
This set includes 13 printable pages that can make 6 full robots. However, the pieces can be combined in many different ways.
Here’s how it’s organized:
- 6 pages with a robot head + lower body
- 6 pages with a robot main body + a pair of arms
- 1 optional page with robot feet and an extra fun bottom piece
To make one robot, kids simply choose:
- 1 head/lower body page
- 1 body/arms page
- Optional: the foot/bottom page
Supplies You’ll Need
- Printed robot craft pages
- White cardstock (highly recommended)
- Markers, crayons, or paint
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- Optional: toothpick or wooden skewer
Why Cardstock Works Best
I tested this craft on both regular printer paper and cardstock. Printer paper does work, but once you start folding and gluing the 3D shapes, it becomes very flimsy.
Cardstock makes the robots sturdier, easier to glue, and much more durable when finished, especially for kids who want to play with them afterward.
How to Assemble the 3D Robot Craft
1. Print Your Pages
Choose the pages you want and print only those. There’s no need to print the entire set unless you’re making multiple robots.
The cylindrical body pieces are a bit more advanced than the rectangular shapes. So, for younger kids, I suggest choosing a rectangular-shaped lower body or body part.
2. Color the Robot Pieces
Kids can color their robot parts before assembling. Markers work great, and paint or watercolor looks especially fun on these robots.
3. Cut Out the Pieces
All pieces will need to be cut out. Younger kids may need help with this step.

4. Fold the Tabs and Lines
Fold along all tabs and main fold lines before gluing.

5. Glue the 3D Shapes
Work one piece at a time.
- Add glue to the tabs
- Press the edges together
- Hold for a few seconds until secure

The final tab can be tricky to reach with a glue stick.
Helpful tip: I found it very useful to scrape a little glue off the glue stick using a toothpick or wooden skewer, then apply it to that last hard-to-reach area.
6. Attach the Arms
Once all body parts are built, glue the arms onto the sides of the robot body.
Helpful Tips for Groups, Parents, and Teachers
- Print just 2–3 pages per child to keep the activity manageable
- Use cardstock for best results
- Adults can pre-cut or pre-build parts for younger kids
- Let kids mix and match robot pieces once several robots are finished
