These free printable 3D bugs coloring pages give kids a fun way to color and craft their own insects.
The 3D element makes the insect pop off the page.
Older elementary kids can enjoy these as calm, creative coloring pages, while younger children (kindergarten to grade 2) can also use the simple insect questions at the top for light learning.
There are 8 different insect coloring pages:
- butterfly
- bee
- ladybug
- dragonfly
- grasshopper
- beetle
- praying mantis
- moth
Each page gives kids a chance to color a nature scene, add their insect, and create a finished picture with a bit of dimension. It’s something they can feel proud of when they’re done.

Supplies
You only need a few basic supplies to use these pages:
- printer paper (or cardstock for sturdier bugs)
- crayons, colored pencils, or markers
- scissors
- glue
Instructions
Start by choosing one nature scene page and one insect page.
Step 1: Color the scene
Color the background of the nature coloring page with flowers, grass, leaves, and sky.
Step 2: Color the insect
Color your insect page before cutting. This helps keep all the pieces neat and easy to handle.
Step 3: Cut out the pieces
Carefully cut out the insect. Some pages have one piece, while others have a few parts to cut.
Step 4: Fold or assemble
Follow any fold lines or glue pieces together if needed. This is what creates the 3D effect.
Step 5: Attach the insect
Glue the insect onto the scene page. You can choose where to place it in the picture.
Step 6: Add the 3D effect
Gently lift wings or parts of the insect so it stands up slightly from the page.
Step 7: Complete the insect section (optional)
At the top of each page, there is a short section where kids can fill in simple details about their insect, like how it moves or how many legs it has.
Younger children may need help reading or writing the answers.
This step can be skipped if you’re using the pages just for coloring and crafting.

Answer Keys
Here is the answer key to help you check your child’s work or guide them if they get stuck.
The answer key is also included in the PDF for your convenience.
Each insect in this activity has:
- 6 legs
- 4 wings
Kids will also identify how each insect moves by selecting from the options: fly, crawl, jump, or climb.
Since this activity focuses on observation and early learning, some answers may vary slightly based on what a child notices in their picture.
For example, while all of the insects in this set can fly, some – like grasshoppers or mantises – are more often seen jumping, crawling, or climbing.
The answer key is meant to support learning, not limit it. If your child has a reasonable explanation for their answer, that’s a great opportunity for discussion and deeper understanding.
