These free printable 3rd grade shape spelling worksheets help kids practice spelling words through simple language arts activities that feel manageable and low-pressure.
Have you ever handed your child a spelling list and told them to study the words on their own? That works for some children, but others need a little more variety and repetition to really remember the words. That’s why these worksheets were created.
The worksheets were designed to help kids learn to spell the words from a 3rd grade spelling list while working on these 3rd grade language arts skills:
- missing letters
- long vowel sounds
- blends and trigraphs
- rhyming words
- ABC order
- 2D and 3D shapes
- hard and soft C sounds
- spelling and vocabulary review
Answer keys are at the bottom of this post to help make homeschool planning a little easier.

These shape themed spelling worksheets are part of a full 3rd grade homeschool curriculum where each week has a different theme.
If you’d like to see how these spelling activities fit into the rest of the week, take a look at the Week 28 shapes homeschool lesson plan.

Shape Spelling Worksheet
The first worksheet introduces the week’s spelling words with a simple shape labeling activity.
Children look at each picture and write the correct shape word underneath. The page includes both 2D and 3D shapes, giving kids a chance to review geometry vocabulary while practicing spelling at the same time.

I always include previously learned spelling words of the same theme, as a way of continual review. In this case, the word “star”, a previously learned 2nd grade spelling word, is included on this worksheet.
Rhyming and ABC Order Worksheet
The next worksheet gives kids rhyming practice and an alphabetical order review.
Children write spelling words that rhyme with picture words like tape, bone, chair, and deer before putting all the shape words into ABC order.

2D and 3D Shapes Spelling Worksheet
This worksheet gives children several different ways to practice the week’s spelling words.
First, students complete the missing letters in each shape word.
Then they sort the words into 2D and 3D shapes, helping reinforce basic geometry vocabulary while reviewing spelling.

The final activity asks children to identify hard and soft C sounds in shape words like circle, cone, and cylinder.
Shape Phonics Worksheet
This spelling worksheet focuses on sounds and spelling patterns.
- long vowel sounds
- digraphs and trigraphs
- R-controlled vowels
- syllables
- spelling patterns
After finding the correct word, children write the spelling word and sketch a small picture inside the box.

These printable spelling activities are easy to add into a homeschool routine without extra prep or complicated instructions.
