When rainy spring days roll in, this free printable spring weather fill-in word puzzle is a perfect brain teaser for upper elementary students, middle schoolers, high schoolers, and even adults.
It’s a fun and screen-free way to build seasonal vocabulary, sharpen spelling and logic skills, and enjoy a little quiet time indoors when the weather won’t cooperate.
Whether you’re a parent, teacher, or homeschooler, you’ll love that this PDF comes with two versions of the same puzzle—an easier one and a more challenging one—so you can pick the level that’s just right for your learners.
Difficulty Level
This spring puzzle has 2 different versions of the same puzzle, each with its own level of difficulty. Choose between easy and medium.
The first puzzle is the easiest, as it has only one 11-letter word to fit. So, kids will be able to start the puzzle quickly as soon as they find the 11-letter spot.
The second fill in puzzle is best for older kids and even adults. It’s more challenging, and there are 4 to 8 words per grouping of words with the same amount of letters. The medium-level puzzle has 50 words to fit in and some more advanced vocabulary than the easier puzzle.
What’s a Fill In Puzzle?
A fill-in word puzzle is a fun twist on a traditional crossword. Instead of clues, you get a list of words, and your job is to figure out where each word fits into the puzzle grid. Think of it like a wordy jigsaw puzzle!
Spring Weather Fill In Puzzle – Harder Version
This puzzle has 50 spring related weather words to fit in the puzzle. The words are 3 to 11 letters long.

It’s the more challenging version of the two, and you can spot it easily by the two raindrops next to its title.
Spring Weather Fill In Word Puzzle – Easier Version
Here is a slightly easier version of this same puzzle. You can identify it by the single raindrop to the right of its title.

This version includes 44 spring-themed weather words to fit into the grid, ranging in length from 3 to 9 letters.
Challenging Words and Their Meanings
A fill in puzzle is a fun vocabulary worksheet.
When completing the puzzle, kids might come across some words that aren’t used every day. When I gave my daughter the puzzle, I got asked questions like “What does balmy mean?”
To help with that, here are some weather-related terms you might find tricky, along with simple definitions:
- Dew – Small drops of water that form on cool surfaces in the morning or evening.
- Balmy – A warm, gentle breeze, usually pleasant in the spring or summer.
- Brisk – A quick and lively movement, often used to describe cool, refreshing weather.
- Drizzle – Light rain that falls in very small, fine drops.
- Showers – Short periods of rain, often happening on and off throughout the day.
- Humidity – The amount of moisture or water vapor in the air, often making it feel warmer.
- Overcast – When the sky is covered with clouds, blocking out the sun.
- Rainfall – The amount of rain that falls in a specific area or during a certain time.
- Snowfall – The amount of snow that falls from the sky during a snowstorm.
- Windbreaker – A light jacket worn to protect against wind and cold weather.
- Fahrenheit – A temperature scale used in the United States, where water freezes at 32°F and boils at 212°F.
- Celsius – A temperature scale used in many countries around the world, where water freezes at 0°C and boils at 100°C.
- P.O.P. – abbreviation for Probability of Precipitation. This is the chance that it will rain or snow. For example, if the weather report says there’s a 70% P.O.P., it means there’s a 70% chance that rain or snow will happen that day.
- Temp – Short for temperature, which tells you how hot or cold it is outside.
- Clear – When the sky is free of clouds, and the sun is shining brightly.
- Spring Fever – The excitement or energy people feel when the weather starts warming up in spring.
- Thunderhead – A large, tall cloud that often leads to thunderstorms, bringing heavy rain, thunder, and lightning.

@Melanie Thomas, I just tried that a few times and the forms still aren't there. I have downloaded many of your puzzles, so I know what I am looking for, but I don't see it!

There should be 2 forms under the header "Download and Print". If you don't see them try refreshing your page. That's happened to me before, and refreshing usually works.
