A winter-themed snowman word search puzzle for kids. The printable has a 17 x 20 uppercase letter grid, a secret quote to reveal, and 30 hidden winter words to find. There are 6 lines for kids to write 6 of the hidden words, which are items used to build the snowman shown in a cute snowman illustration at the bottom right. The first letter of each of these 6 words is given. The puzzle is decorated with cute black-and-white drawings of mittens, a winter hat, sticks for arms, a scarf, and a cute character making a pile of snowballs.

Difficulty Level

The difficulty level of this snowman word search is medium to difficult. It’s probably best suited for grades 4 and up.

Kids will have to be old enough to spell the words buttons, carrot, scarf, sticks, and mittens.

There are 30 snowman words hidden in a 20 X 17 grid of letters. Kids will need to really hunt to find and circle all the hidden words.

They are hidden in every direction: forwards, backwards, upside down, horizontally, vertically, and diagonally.

The puzzle isn’t too tricky, but it will still give kids a good challenge. And it will require some attention to detail, especially when figuring out all 98 letters that are part of the hidden message.

How to Solve the Hidden Message

After finding all 30 words, there will be unused letters left in the grid.

To reveal the secret quote, kids simply write every second remaining letter on the lines at the top of the page.

This adds an extra layer of fun once the word search is complete.

Snowman Words Writing Activity

There are 30 words to find, but only 24 words are given. Kids will need to write the last 6 words.

Kids will be asked to look at a cute illustration of a snowman and write 6 items used to build the snowman. But not to worry, it’s not too hard, and the first letter of each word is given.

It’s a great way to practice spelling these snowman words.

All 6 words are hidden in the puzzle, and need to be found before decoding the secret message.
