Learning about Flight with Paper Airplanes

August 15, 2016 by Melanie Thomas 1 Comment

Learning how airplanes fly for kids.

Aviation Day is a great time to introduce kids to the world of flight and airplanes.  Aviation Day in Canada is on February 23rd of each year, and in the United States it falls on August 19th. My 6 year old has asked me on more than one occasion: "How do planes fly?"  It might take a couple years to fully explore that answer with her as there is so much one can learn about flight, and at her age, I will need to simplify and use play-based learning.  Even so, there's still a lot a 6 year old ...

If you have children, in my opinion, this is a must read children's book.  It is quite humorous ...

September 30, 2015 by Melanie Thomas 4 Comments

Paper Doll Chain Tutorial. Making a handmade card craft for kids.

I love making hand made cards for people.  They're a great opportunity to try out various art techniques, and they are a wonderful way to give joy to others, which in turn gives me joy. ow that I'm a parent, I try to share that love with my daughter.   Besides being an art activity and a giving opportunity, it also has the benefit of giving my daughter some great writing practice.  (See my post Art of the Pencil - Learning to Write & Draw).
