These letter I worksheets are ideal for kindergarten and first graders working on letter sound recognition.

Letter I Beginning Sound Worksheet

The first page is a letter I coloring worksheet. 

Kids will sound out the word of each picture. There are words that begin with each of the 5 vowel sounds. That will give them practice distinguishing between the different vowel sounds and help them learn to more easily identify words with a short I sound.

Children are to color the pictures of words with an initial I sound.

Letter I Phonics Worksheet

The next letter I sound worksheet is probably best for 1st graders.

Short vowel sounds are the more trickier letter sounds to identify. But it’s an important skill to master, especially since every word has at least one vowel.

This 1st-grade phonics worksheet will give kids some extra practice recognizing the short I sound in a word.

A printable short I sound worksheet. There are 12 black and white images of words that have an I sound. Kids need to sound each word out and identify which syllable(s) contains a short letter I sound. Then they are asked to draw an X in the box(es) representing those syllables. There is a picture of a hippo, helicopter, pencil, chimney, dolphin, lipstick, muffin, caterpillar, window, zipper, unicorn, and pumpkin.

The letter I worksheet has 12 pictures. For each image, children will need to identify which syllable(s) in each word contain a short letter I sound. 

For example, the word: U NI CORN

After sounding it out, kids will hear a short I sound in the 2nd or middle syllable. 

There are 3 boxes below the unicorn image. Each box represents a syllable. For this word, kids would need to put an X in the second box.

Kids might find it helpful to lightly clap while saying each syllable.
