The build a shark craft begins as a preschool color-by-number activity. Children will color while practicing number recognition of numbers 1 to 4.

Then, children will build a word by putting together the letters that spell shark. Adding the head, dorsal fin, and pectoral fins will make a paper shark craft.

How to Make This Letter S Craft

Grab your supplies and follow the steps below to make the letter s shark craft with your preschoolers.

Supplies

This preschool shark craft can be made with basic arts and crafts supplies you most likely already have. You’ll need:

  • 4 crayons (or pencil crayons or markers) – a darker blue, sky blue, pink, and black crayon. If you’re using Crayola crayons, the colors are Bluetiful, Cerulean, Carnation Pink, and Black. The Crayola crayons 24 pack (or higher) has all 4 colors.
  • glue stick
  • pair of scissors
  • a light blue sheet of construction paper

The supplies needed for the S is for Shark craft for kids are scissors, glue, a 4 crayons or markers (black, light pink, dark blue, and light blue), and the printable color by number coloring page.

Directions

The preschool shark craft can be made in 4 easy steps.

Step 1 – Color by number activity

Children can color the color by number, and color all sections with a:

  • #1 a darker blue (Bluetiful)
  • #2 a lighter blue (Cerulean)
  • #3 black
  • #4 a light pink (Carnation Pink)

Step 2 – Cut out the letters and shark body parts

Kids will practice their scissor skills as they cut out the s, h, a, r, k, head, dorsal fin, and pectoral fins. You may have to help them with the hole in the lowercase a.

Step 3 – Assemble the shark

Next, preschoolers can build the shark and put each of the 9 pieces in the correct . The image of the finished shark craft is a handy reference for kids to see where each piece goes.

Step 4 – Glue the shark word on a light blue construction paper

Once the shark has been assembled, it’s time to glue it on a sheet of light blue construction paper, landscape orientation.
